  Was recently re-reading John Douglas and Mark Olshaker's book "The Cases That Haunt Us" in which Douglas goes more deeply into his thoughts on the Whitechapel Murders than he was able to on the 1988 TV Special. He reflects Edmund Reid's assertion that the suspect would have frequented the local pubs, though he does not say, as Reid does, that he would be known casually to the women for this reason, which might explain why, even at the height of the panic, these women would still go to dark places with him. Does anyone else agree with Douglas, and especially Reid? Or do you have reasons why you do not think that this would be true?
